Atlanta’s own maxi-genre instrumental ensemble extraordinaire Dialect Trio continues its whirlwind TransNational spree across continents and styles with John Brown’s Dreadful Right Hand. This extended Afro-Latin-Blues piece, recorded this fall at Piper Street Studios and produced by Piper Street Sound, showcases the group’s expansive ideology and zeal for melding influences, while staying true to their Southeastern U.S. roots.
Featuring guest appearances by longtime Dialect Trio mainstays Yaya Brown on percussion and horns by Jonathan Lloyd (of Cadillac Jones, Tongo Hiti, and JLloyd’s Mashup and Rocksteady Revue), the original trio of Russ Bledsoe, Matt Mansfield (Piper Street Sound, DubConscious), and Robby Astrove weaves a multicultural tapestry over an extended rhythm, a la Afrobeat, that explores African Funk and Jazz, Latin rhythms, and soulful Southern Blues. Slated for eventual release on Dialect Trio’s second full-length LP in the spring, this multi-version preview single is available here for open-donation download.
